The much awaited expansion of the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra cabinet took place on Tuesday, August 9. The ceremony comes over a month after the Shiv Sena MLA was sworn in as chief minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis took oath as his deputy on following the resignation of Uddhav Thackeray due to a rebellion in the Sena ranks. The Monsoon session of state legislature will begin from August 17.
The duo had been functioning as a two-member cabinet since then, inviting criticism from opposition leaders. The cabinet expansion took place in Mumbai today.
Eighteen leaders, nine each from Shiv Sena and the BJP, have been inducted into the cabinet. The list doesn’t include a woman. The strength of Maharashtra ministry has now gone up to 20, less than half the maximum allowed strength of 43.
