Mumbai Indians ended defending champions Chennai Super Kings’ hopes of a playoffs berth with a 5-wicket victory at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.
Mumbai Indians, five-time champions, were the first team to be knocked out of the playoffs hunt while Chennai Super Kings, who had lost their first four matches of the season, had a faint chance before Thursday night.
However, after CSK were bowled out for 97, there seemed very little hope of staying on course for a playoffs spot. This is only the second time that CSK have failed to go beyond the group stages. In 2020, CSK had finished 7th in an 8-team competition before winning the title in 2021.
