Uttarakhand Rains Live Updates: Death toll rises to 46; rescue ops on

The Nainital-Kaladhungi road reopened on Wednesday even as torrential rainfall continued to batter Uttarakhand. The state reported at least 42 rain-related deaths on Tuesday. Nainital was cut off from the rest of Uttarakhand as heavy rain, reportedly triggered by a cloudburst, led to a series of landslides.

“Nainital-Kaladhungi road, which was blocked yesterday due to heavy rainfall, has been reopened. Traffic movement has been started now,” ANI quoted Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar as saying.

Out of the 42 casualties reported on Tuesday, Nainital alone accounted for 28 deaths, followed by Almora and Champawat with six each and one each in Pithoragarh and Udham Singh Nagar districts.
