Some films and books can be difficult to get hooked onto in the early stages. They start off with so much intensity that it can feel like too much and too difficult to carry on. And yet, there will be something in the characterisation, plot or language that holds your interest just enough and then goes on to provide a rewarding experience. Malik gives you that sense, though it does not fully deliver on the experience.
