Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday announced that Section 144 will be imposed in the state for 15 days from 8 pm tomorrow amid the alarming rise in COVID-19 cases.
Ruling out a complete lockdown in the state, Thackeray said that the increase in COVID-19 cases has burdened the health infrastructure in the state. “We are continuously upgrading our healthcare infrastructure but they are under pressure. There is a shortage of medical oxygen, beds and the demand for Remdesivir has also increased, ” he said.
He refrained from terming the new curbs as a lockdown. “The state government will provide three kg wheat and two kg rice free for the next one month to every poor and needy person while the coronavirus-induced restrictions are in place,” Thackeray added.
