It is Leap Day 2020 and Google celebrated the date with an animated doodle. February 29 is known as a leap day or leap year day that occurs every four years and Google Doodle, on its part, marks it with quirky illustrations.
This particular date is added to those years that are divisible by 4. In case of a leap year, one extra day is added to calendars as that year in particular lasts for 366 days instead of 365.
So as to explain this phenomenon, the Google Doodle page elaborated, “This is to keep our calendar in sync with the rotation of the Earth around the sun. Without Leap Day, we’d be out of sync by about six hours per year.”
