It, indeed, was a surreal moment as Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee, dressed in traditional Bengali attire, received the Nobel Prize in economics in Sweden on December 10. Banerjee’s outfit has impressed the internet thoroughly as Twitter couldn’t stop praising his appearance.
Rabindranath Tagore and Amartya Sen won the Nobel before Abhijit Banerjee. While Tagore couldn’t attend the ceremony in Stockholm and Sen wore a suit, Abhijit took the dhoti-panjabi to Sweden. The Indian-American economist was accompanied by his wife Esther Duflo, elegant in a saree.
