San Francisco Veterans Day Parade a ‘celebration of service’

Kathleen Plessas fought back tears Sunday morning as she stood on the Embarcadero, waiting for San Francisco’s annual Veterans Day Parade to kick off.

“I’m already getting emotional,” she said as she watched dozens of participants line up at North Point Street near Fisherman’s Wharf.

For Plessas, 79, the celebration was personal. The Daly City resident volunteers at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center, often driving a golf cart to help ailing veterans get to appointments.
