IMD declares formation of cyclone ‘Kyarr’ over Arabian Sea

A cyclonic storm, named Kyarr, over east central Arabia Sea is likely to add to the troubles of people living in southern Maharashtra, north and coastal Karnataka, according to information provided by the state disaster management authorities.

The Karnataka Disaster Management authorities said Kyarr moved northwards with a speed of 5 kmph during the past 6 hrs, intensified into a cyclonic storm at 5:30 am today near 240 km west-southwest of Ratnagiri in neighbouring Maharashtra.

“It is very likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours and into a very severe cyclonic storm during subsequent 12 hours,” Karnataka disaster management authorities said on Friday.
