A sellout crowd of towel-waving fans at Barclays Center roared, many chanting “MVP” as free agent signing Kyrie Irving went off for 50 points, the most scored for any player in a debut for his team in NBA history. But in the last possession in overtime, Irving slipped as he was trying to make a move towards the basket, got up and missed what would have been the game-winning shot as the Brooklyn Nets fell ti the Minnesota Timberwolves 127-126 in Wednesday’s season opener.
