Istanbul earthquake: Turkish city rocked by 5.7 magnitude tremor

Turkish city Istanbul has been rocked by an earthquake, thought to have a magnitude of 5.7.

Witnesses have described large tremors as the quake struck at around 1.40pm local time.

Schools were evacuated in the aftermath of the natural disaster.

Laura Grace wrote on Twitter : “Woah. 5.7 earthquake just hit Istanbul and my whole flat rocked like crazy.”

And Umar Farooq wrote: “Just felt two very strong shocks from an earthquake in Istanbul. The first one made me concerned, second made me jump, and I took waaay too long to get my things together and get out of the building.”
